Work Work Work

Polishing and perfecting the jumps, spins, footwork, and artistic presentation of a program is hard work. It requires endurance. It means you take lots of falls and you often live with the pain that results.

Hey everyone!

It's Rachel here. Just thought that you should know a bit about me. As it says in the banner, my name is Rachel Caley. I am 12 years old and I am totally in love and commited to competitive figure skating. I was first introduced to the ice when I was about 6 years old. I didn't have any skates so I borrowed a pair of old skates from a neighbor. My mom took me to a make-shift ice rink on the town green. When I first stepped out onto the ice, I wasn't so sure that I wanted to continue, but after staying on the ice for a few more minutes, my fears had gone away, and I was soaring across the ice! Well, soaring to me, for my first time. From that day on, I knew it was something that I wanted to pursue. I asked my mom if I could take lessons and she eventually agreed to let me take group lessons at the local rink. Anyway, I attend school at William J. Johnston Middle School in Colchester, CT and I am currently in 7th grade. I am a straight "A" student and my favorite school subjects are reading and math. My favorite books are, Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar and The Clique by Lisi Harrison. My favorite T.V. show of all time is, Hannah Montana. And, heres a shocker everyone, you ready, my favorite singer is ……Miley Cyrus!

2008 competition is under way

I am now a competitive figure skater at the "Intermediate" level. Figure skating is my passion! I working very hard on my program for the upcoming competition season which opened for me at the Green Mountain Open in Burlington, VT. I placed 2nd in the Intermediate Short event and 5th in the Intermediate Long event. Next up is the New England Figure Skating Club's Summer Challenge.

During this school year I have been training, on and off the ice, at least 15 hours each week on top of my school work. When the summertime comes I spend more hours training and traveling to competitions.
